Your offer's terms say when the clock starts. For most cards it's approval, not when the card arrives.
So late transactions still post in time.
If the terms say, e.g. “within 8 weeks”.
How the deadline is worked out
Deadline = the date the clock starts plus the time allowed. Days are counted as calendar days. Months move to the same day of the month, or the last day if that month is shorter (so 3 months from January 31 is April 30). The deadline day itself is the last day in time.
Example
Approved on September 1 with $4,000 to spend in 3 months: the deadline is December 1. If you’ve spent $1,000 by September 25 and want to finish a week early, that’s about $50 a day, or $345 a week, until November 24.
Keep in mind
- Your offer’s terms decide the start date, the window and what counts.
- Posting times are what the terms state or what you enter; they’re not guaranteed.
Questions
When does the minimum spend clock start?
Whatever your terms say. For most credit cards it's the approval or account-open date, not the day the card arrives. Bank bonuses usually count from account opening, and some from when you enroll in the offer.
Is “90 days” the same as “3 months”?
Not quite. 90 days is an exact count; 3 months runs to the same date three calendar months later, which can be 89 to 92 days. Enter the window exactly as your terms word it.
Why finish before the deadline?
Card purchases and deposits can take days to post, and a return or reversal after the deadline can pull you back under the requirement. Finishing a week early gives you room.
What usually doesn't count toward minimum spend?
Typically annual fees, interest, cash advances, balance transfers and similar charges. Your card's terms list the exclusions.
